Ward 2 Councillor, Renrick Ashby and Durham Police Regional Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator
Morgen Dobson proudly welcome two new Neighbourhood Watches in Ward 2, North Ajax, with each
group following the guidelines for endorsement set out by the Durham Regional Police Service. Block
Captains have been identified and trained, home-owners have made their commitment to the program by
signing the Neighbourhood Watch Petition, and they have also been trained in Crime Prevention and
Community Safety Techniques either by attending a Neighbourhood Watch Training meeting or being
trained by their respective Block Captains.
The first area is to be known as the "Imagination Northwest Neighbourhood Watch" and will include those homes
bounded by Elliottglen to the south, Gillett to the east, Taunton to the north, and Booker to the west, and includes
approximately 135 homes on Eyreglen, Watersplace, Booker and Elliottglen.
The second area is to be known as the "Good Lane Neighbourhood Watch" and forms the northwest corner of the
southern half of the Hamlet community at Audley and Williamson. This is a privately owned condo corporation
containing 21 homes on Good Lane.
Both Watches were officially endorsed on Thursday January 12, 2012
This brings to 194 the total Neighbourhood Watches in Durham Region (with 29 of those in Ajax). Five out of seven
Neighbourhood Watches endorsed in 2011 were in Ajax, and to date two out of two in 2012 are also in Ajax. This speaks
very highly of the level of commitment the Town has made to encouraging its residents to get involved in the the program
specifically, and to community safety in general.
“One of my most important commitments to the people of Ajax, during the campaign for the
privilege to become their Ward 2 Counsellor, was a mandate to empower communities and engage
residents. The Neighbourhood Watch Program has certainly given us that opportunity. The many
doors that I have knocked on, recruiting community involvement in the program, and never having
missed a meeting or training session, and the supportive responses received from the commited
people of Ajax, have delivered a clear message to me. Take the safety of our neighbourhoods
seriously. That’s a message I will continue to listen to, and act upon. The program has come a
long way, but there is much to do. I look forward to continuing to work with the people of Ajax, and
Morgen Dobson of the Durham Regional Police, to further engage and strengthen our community.”
Ward 2 Councillor, Renrick Ashby
