As a long time resident of Ajax, and your Ward 2 Councillor, I recognize that there are some young people in our community who have dreams of success, but need help to make those dreams a reality. Through no fault of their own, some young people are forced to forego higher learning due to financial circumstances.
My goal is to hold an annual motorcycle rally to raise money to help those youth that are in need. The rally is also intended to bring residents and friends together to make a difference in the community and support our youth. Together, we can help these young people on their way to realizing their dreams and aspirations.
Through the bike rally, we hope to raise funds to establish an ongoing scholarship to assist local youth with their post-secondary education. The scholarships will be presented to one student from Notre Dame High School and one from J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate who intend to pursue post-secondary studies at either UOIT or Durham College. Education is a gift that keeps giving into the future. It is my hope that I can establish a scholarship that will continue for years to come.
The rally is in its infancy. We are encouraged by the increased participation of riders in the second annual ride which took place on September 12, 2009. With the support we received, we will be handing out the first scholarships this year. Your continued support of this endeavour is greatly appreciated.
This year’s rally is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Further details will be made available when plans have been finalized. Please come out and lend your support.
Our Youth, Our future.Together we can make a difference.
